Former L&L creative writing student, Sayeeda T. Ahmad, one of Bangladesh’s most sublime new voices, recently published her first collection of poetry, Across Oceans (Bengal Lights Books).
Dubbed the Resident Poet at Jatra Biroti in Dhaka, she has won the Selina Terry Poetry Award (2005) and Muse Masters Season 2 Performance Poetry Award (2015), and received honorable mentions for the New Millenium Writings Award (2005) and Atlanta Review Poetry Award (2005).
When asked, “Will you teach, or teach, after graduation?” while studying creative writing at University of Northern Iowa, she said: “Publish, write, edit, repeat,” which is what she does in her day job at Dhaka Tribune, a daily newspaper, and after hours on her laptop. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in ditch, Wasafiri, Safina Radio Project, Allegro, Plum Tree Tavern, and Anomaly.
Ahmad plans to begin an M.F.A. program at the University of Kansas in the fall. Click here to find out more about Across Oceans.
