Final Thursday Reading Series: Season 17

Final Thursday Reading SeriesJoin the Final Thursday Reading Series for its 17th season. Featured regional authors are preceded by a creative writing open mic.  All events are the last Thursday of the month at the Hearst Center for the Arts.

Open mic signup starts at 7 p.m. (bring your best five minutes of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction).  Open mic begins at 7:15. The featured author takes the stage at 8.

Books by local authors will be available for purchase. Final Thursday Reading Series is a collaboration of Final Thursday Press, the Hearst Center for the Arts, and the University of Northern Iowa College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences. Coffee is provided by Sidecar Coffee Roasters and cream is provided by Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy.


Th. August 31—Patricia O’Donnell
O’Donnell is the author of the memoir, Waiting to Begin (Bottom Dog Press) and the short story collection Gods for Sale (Snake Nation Press). An alumna of UNI, she directs the BFA program in creative writing at the University of Maine – Farmington.

Th. Sept. 28—Vince Gotera
Gotera is the poetry editor of Star*Line (the journal of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association). He is also the author of poetry collections including Fighting Kite (Pecan Grove Press) and Ghost Wars (Final Thursday Press) and a Professor of English at UNI.

Th. Oct. 26—Crystal Gibbins
Gibbins is the editor of Split Rock Review and author of the poetry collection, Now/Here (Holy Cow! Press).

Th. Nov. 30—Brooke Wonders
Wonders’s recent fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Cutbank, DIAGRAM, and Apex Magazine. She is an Assistant Professor of English at UNI.
